Reflection Day 2

Today, my heart reflects sadness that I am not able to gather with our students and staff in the kitchen cooking breakfast together as we laugh and talk about what is going on in their lives and how they feel. You know, this sadness can change my attitude, my patience, my motivation while I am at home with my family. I have to work so very hard, and catch myself often, to not let this sadness overflow at home. Touching base here with all of you helps my heart reflect happiness and hope that sooner than later we will be laughing, telling stories, learning and fellowshipping face to face! It’s time to pull out our journals, move into our quiet spot, play our music and journal by reflecting…. What does this scripture mean to you?How is your heart feeling today? Reflection Day 1

Years ago when I began developing the idea of Micah’s Mission, I began getting up early to read in my Bible and open my ears of how God wanted Micah’s to be created. After opening Micah’s, I was challenged to begin journaling in addition to the time I spent with God each day. Sometime last year, I was talking with a friend about taking time, being still, listening and writing it down, a friend shared that one of her friends chooses a word to ponder and pray about. A few months ago, another friend of mind reminded me how important is was to be still, turn on the music that moves you and write. So, here we are… today ponder the scripture above. What does this scripture mean to you? What does it look like when you are still? How has God moved in your life lately because you have chosen to be still and listen to His guidance… plan… path? If you haven’t taken time to be still, then how do you want it to be for the next few weeks? What will you do in order to make this happen? I’ll be getting up and hour or so before my guys in order to begin the day reading, writing and praying with God before my day begins.

Stand Firm

Gosh, with all this rain it has been hard to be anything but gloomy and sluggish. Yesterday we had a break in the rain and sun was out! There were funny posts on social media about not letting the weather scare you, because there has been such little sunshine. As I ran my miles outside soaking up every bit of the sun, I realized how depressed-like I had been for the past few weeks.

I had been on guard, asking for help from God to stand firm, but not feeling an ounce of strength or at times love. I just felt like Eeyore… Have you ever felt that way? I am so used to feeling like Pooh or Tigger. Those who know me, I am probably a mix of both everyday! Ha! Sidebar: Winnie-the-Pooh has been my favorite since I was small.

Yesterday I realized how much love others had been pouring into me these past few weeks and I wasn’t quite recognizing. When having an Eeyore kind of day or week, know that there is love all around. Just be on guard, ready to accept and give that love so you can stand firm in your faith demonstrating courage and strength. It’s okay to have help doing that… we all need help at times to stand. This allows you to be grounded with God! Enjoy your week!

No Fear

Not fearing anything can be quite scary all in itself. Have you ever felt the overwhelming feeling due to the fact that you didn’t fear what was ahead of you? I feel that everyday… I don’t quite understand how I can not have fear of my future, but I am still overwhelmed, can’t always breathe, nervous, brain never quits problem solving while feeling at complete peace in my soul. It’s so hard to explain and understand, but to me that’s God. I still can’t always see why or where I am going from here, but I continue to move forward without fear. Toby Mac posted “Faith tells me that no matter what lies ahead of me, God is already there”.

You know even though I tend to hit road blocks which means more problems everyday for me to solve, I am glad I don’t do that alone. I read somewhere the other day something to the effect of… She stands bold and confident on the outside, even though she is overwhelmed and scared on the inside, facing whatever lies ahead. I don’t mind others seeing that I can be overwhelmed and scared, but I want them to remember most that those feelings didn’t stop me from standing bold and confident with courage. It’s all due to the trust and faith that I have in God that I can do this. He is the rock I lean against daily. Stand firm Faith + Motivation friends… God’s got you!

Days of Thanksgiving

Hey Faith + Motivation Friends!!! All the fall feels with the leaves 🍁 falling, but this weather has wintry chill!! I’m sure soon it’ll be all the fall feels and summery temps. Ha!

As I looked at my calendar to prepare for the week, all I can say is Oh. My. Goodness… it’s Thanksgiving 🦃 You know my parents always said that the older you get the faster every year goes. Of course, I just thought older you got the slower everything would be 😳Boy, was I wrong!!! The years seem to fly by way to fast ( now since I’m over 40 and all 😜🤩😎)

What are you Thankful for?

Well, I have so many things to be thankful for… warm home, loving family and friends, food around the table, memories of those who are sitting at the feet of Jesus, peace, love, joy, prayers, and much, much more!!! Oh, and a favorite of telling stories around the living room as we prepare to remember all the reasons we are thankful with laughter and sometimes tears.

As we head into the thankful season friends, know I am praying for you! Enjoy!! ❤️

Unwind and Unplug

School let out in May… I thought from March to May was a whirlwind. Boy, how I was wrong. Those three months didn’t have anything on June and July! Overwhelming is an understatement! It was the summer and supposed to be relaxing! My husband and our oldest were back to the grind of summer workouts. Our youngest just wanted to sleep everyday until noon! Ha… so did I! Even though it was super fast-paced, I wouldn’t change it for the world; however, I needed some time to unwind and unplug… to breathe.

My guys, my parents and I took off to a lake in the middle of nowhere. After getting started an hour or so late, forgetting the frozen food in my freezer, not packing one stitch of clothing for our youngest son or the life jackets… we made it safely with a new wardrobe and life jackets in tow. I wasn’t quite sure how the long weekend was going to go with how it began… in silence and breathing hard. I just needed to not think, not make any decisions, or rush anywhere. I got what I needed…

Like I said, we were in the middle of nowhere… not even a gas station was within 30 minutes. All you could do was sit, eat, sleep and fish. In order for me to revive my attitude, my motivation, my energy… I needed to breathe. I need to speak healing words to myself and feel God’s healing words within me in order to decrease my overwhelming feeling, decrease my mental tiredness, increase my confidence in my decision making, and organize so I stopped rushing everywhere. I got up early and sat on the porch with my Dad and Mom and we drank coffee while the guys got ready. When they went fishing, I sat and read a book which led me to healing words I need to hear from God’s scriptures. I embraced the birds chirping and the wind blowing while looking at the incredible view… no cars, no horns, no alarm clocks, no phones ringing or beeping.

Looking at the view in the picture above allowed for me to wrap my heart, my attitude, and my mind around these healing views and God’s Word, so I could return a few days later to my world and focus. I am forever grateful that God gave me the unwinding and unplugging time to breathe and revive myself mentally, physically, and emotionally so I can focus on others to continue His plan for me. Pray for all the students, teachers and administration who are headed back for a year of learning!!!

Promises for Life…

Training for my first half marathon, I took everything quite seriously. I ate everything I should. I drank more than enough water and cut out the diet coke. I woke up early to train according to the plan I set before me. I even worked on speed training (which I was still slow as a turtle ha!). Taking this time to prepare my body, I was able to prepare my mind. See, most that train begin 12 weeks out from the race. Not me! I began in March for a December run… crazy, huh?!?

During this time of training, I thought, during all that time of running quietly, about beginning to read more of my Bible and learn more about what all actually happened within the Bible. Shamefully, I carved more time out of my schedule for running, than I did for my devotions. Training properly is a must to be able to finish a goal that you set before yourself. Training for my half marathon, I was able to crush the average pace I set before myself. I was SUPER PROUD! However, that didn’t all the way fulfill me. “For the training of the body has limited benefit, but Godliness is beneficial in every way. Since it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come.” – 1 Timothy 4:8

I realized that running makes me happy and allows for me to decrease my stress and breathe. However, after I was intentional about reading my devotions, spending time in His Word, and remaining quiet to talk with God daily, I became happier, stress was manageable, and I could breathe more deeply. I realized that yes training was quite beneficial, but nothing like preparing my heart for the promises God provides not only here on earth… for eternity.

Decisions, Decisions, Decisions…

Adulting… Not as easy as I once thought! Do you ever feel that you are able to adult with a sense of sound judgement? Some days I do, but others I’m like please don’t mess everything completely with this decision you are making. Kind of like choosing the lesser of two evils. I pray everyday that the decisions I make are of a grounded, sense of sound judgment. You know, 2 Timothy 1:7 states “For God has not given us a spirit of fearlessness, but one of power, love and sound judgement”. Shew, that kinda takes my breath away!

For those who know me personally, being speechless isn’t something that comes very often, but reading this scripture… there are many times I can’t breathe due to the decisions I am facing whether personal or business. I look to the scriptures to ground me in order to make each sound judgement. I feel such fear at times that I can’t breathe, so reading His Word allows me to remember how fear is a liar. As fear leaves, I can feel the power, love, then sound judgement for whatever decision I am making. Now, I am not saying that every decision I make is right on, but being who I am…. I do the best I can. I have learned how to accept that I am doing the best that I can. This in turn covers me in peace… He covers me with His peace.

What direction are you going?

I have never been good at directions, well geography… Good thing I married a guy who likes to travel and knows where we are going and how to get there! Keeping straight time zones and stuff like that, I just ask my husband and he will laugh giving me the answer. Ha! He will travel for hours across any time zone to enjoy a few days away. I don’t really care for taking hours to get where I am going, especially riding in a car. Guess that’s another way we are different.

Even though I haven’t been a great traveler, I have been a long distance runner. Yep, I can run for two hours, but riding in a car that long is soooo boring. Ha! Nevertheless, staying on course and attaining endurance is quite important to sustain for that amount of time I’m running. Endurance has always been something I have had. I’m not sure where it came from, but my sister and brother seem to have that drive and endurance, too. I have always been driven to stay in one direction that would lead to success and happiness.

My grandmother followed God’s direction through working her farm. She had great drive and endurance to run her farm like she did. Her eyes didn’t waiver from her vision on her farm and neither did her heart as she sat in her pew every Sunday. She knew that God calls us to look heavenward during any situation for His guidance and endurance. 2 Thessalonians 3:5 says, “May the LORD direct your hearts to God’s love and Christ’s endurance.” Where is your direction leading you? Where is your happiness and success? Where does your endurance come from?

Renewing Our Inner Person…

Have you ever felt like giving up even though you are absolutely giving it all you have, but others can’t see to see it??? Me! Me! I have definitely felt that way once or twice over my 40 years of life. I have always taken others opinions of me to heart. Well in the business world that isn’t quite a good thing, but that is still a weakness of mine. Maybe it’s because I want to please others so badly.

You know, I realized that I can’t take on what others say about me or what they think about me as my truth. I need to take on what God says about me as my truth. I also need to make sure that when I self-talk it is a pure reflection, not a tainted one of how others talk to or about me. “Therefore we do not give up. Even though our outer person is being destroyed. Our inner person is being renewed day by day.” -2 Corinthians 14:16

I search each morning, day by day, in God’s word who I am by who he has made me to be. I work hard to renew my inner person to meet the outer person I would like others to see, even if they don’t care for me. I realized (which took me many, many years) that I can’t please everybody, but I can please myself, my family, and my God. Therefore, I will continue to renew my inner person to restore what has been damaged or destroyed in order to be the person inside and out I’ve been called to be. Don’t give up!
